In January of 1988, our family relocated to Guatemala in response to the Lord’s calling. We sold our home in Canton, Ohio. We loaded our 1970 Ford pick-up truck with everything we owned and ourselves. We drove five days through the United States, Mexico, and across the Guatemalan border. Doris and our two children, Joe and Amy, had previously never been outside of the United States. However, when we crossed into Guatemala, Doris looked at me and said, “I feel like we are home.”  For almost seven years we ministered in the area of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.

As of January 1996, Doris and I relocated to the Northern area of the Petén jungle of Guatemala where we have taken on many projects ministering to the poor and spiritually starved people of this region. We have been instrumental in building two hospitals, founding churches, and conducting countless rural medical clinics. Our largest project to date is Hospital Shalom.

For over 10 years we have hosted groups of people who have felt the need to respond to the Lord’s calling. Some groups come in the form of medical or construction talent. Others come simply to show they care and want to minister.  One thing is for sure, not one person who has come to Guatemala has ever left the same person as when they arrived.
