From a Missionary Point of View

A study in the Word of God from Missionary Rev. Timothy A. Spurrier

Through out the years many people have questioned me about the building of a hospital and if I truly believe in the “Word of Faith “movement in the church that I am a part of. Well I would like to take a just a short time to set the record straight.

I do believe that the Bible is the true and inspired Word of God. I also believe that, according to Hebrews 11:6 that if we are going to please God then we must have faith. Romans 14:23 says: … for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

Well then if you believe and have faith then why not just pray for people instead of building a hospital?

Reason number one is Jesus said to do it. Let us look at Luke chapter 10 starting in verse 30. This is, of course the story of the good Samaritan and many of sermons have been given on these scriptures but let us look at some of the facts in this case as they pertain to us at this day and time.

Fact number one….the Samaritan saw a person in desperate need that was not able to help him self.

Fact number two…the Samaritan had compassion and provided the best first aide that he could.

Fact number three…the Samaritan took the man to a place of refuge. In that day and time while traveling the best place of refuge for the sick or injured was an inn.

Fact number four… the Samaritan took care of the man himself during the first 24 hours.

In modern day hospitals 80% of the healthcare given to a patient is given during the first 24 hours.

Fact number five… the Samaritan paid, from his own funds, for two additional days of recovery time for the man. In modern hospitals the average stay in the hospital is three days.

Fact number six… verse 37 Jesus tells his listeners to “go and do thou likewise.”

One additional curiosity: when did the Samaritan pray for the man? I know there are many scriptures that tell us to lay hands on the sick and they will recover and we see many do just that as we pray for them but for some people their faith is not at the level where they can receive such a healing. Jesus our example in everything had a way of asking people “What would you have me to do” in other words He was asking them where, is your faith so I can hook up with my faith and we can see healing come into your body.

I believe the most important thing in this entire matter is seeing healing come into the body of hurt and sick people. In all my bible studies I have never seen a scripture that says that the devil has healed any one but I do see Exodus 15:26 …I am the Lord that health thee. The prophet Isaiah tells us of the coming Savior in chapter 53 and verse 5…and with His stripes we are healed. Malachi tells it in another way.

Mal 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise with healing in its wings;

There is but one source of healing in the universe and His name is Jesus the Christ the Holy and anointed one. It is our job to get people hooked into the source.

I pray that you will join us in bringing healing into the lives of thousands there in Guatemala. God Bless you.
